Overton Missionary Baptist Church Vacation Bible School - July 26-30

Overton Missionary Baptist Church will Embark on a High Seas Adventure during their Vacation Bible School, to be held from Monday, July 26th through Friday, July 30th at the church.  Activities will begin at 6:30 PM, nightly with Michael Cary directing the services.  There will be fun songs, activities and refreshments while exploring God's word.  The Vacation Bible School is presented for children from Pre-school age through the sixth grade, but everyone is welcome to attend.

Garage Sale benefits Fire Horse Farms - July 29, 2010

Fire Horse Farms Therapeutic Equestrian Center is hosting a three-day garage sale July 29-31 as a fundraiser. The garage sale will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Winners to be selected in fundraiser for Kevin Ribble - July 30, 2010

Henderson resident and Cassity Jones Lumber employee Kevin Ribble is battling leukemia. His friends and co-workers are raising money to help fund his battle. You get a chance to win one of some great prizes for only a $10 donation. The first place winner will receive a guided fishing trip for two at Lake Fork with renowned guide Brook Rodgers. The second place winner will receive two gift certificates valued at $150 each for The Day Spa at the Marquis in Tyler. The drawing will be held on July 30 and you may get your tickets at any Cassity Jones Lumber location.The store will also be selling leukemia support bracelets for only $5 to benefit Kevin and his family.

Sacred Harp Singing - Aug. 7-8, 2010

East Texas Sacred Harp Singing will convene at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 7 and 8 and the Henderson Community Center at 302 Fair Park St. in Henderson. Lunch will be provided both days and singing will last until about 3 p.m.

Bluebird symposium - August 14, 2010

BLUEBIRD SYMPOSIUM sponsored by Texas Bluebird Society will cover bluebird housing, feeding and sparrow control. A second lecture is about woodpeckers. 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 14. Homecoming and annual revival - Aug. 15-18, 2010

Macedonia Baptist Church in Overton is kicking off their annual revival with a homecoming at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15. Revival services are Monday-Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Rev. Cornell Robinson, pastor of Greater Long Ridge CME Church in Waskom will be the guest of the hour. Host pastor is Rev. Jerry Ballard. The church is located at 1466 FM 850 E in Overton. Birthday Banquet - Aug. 21, 2010

West Holly Spring Church of the Living God, Laneville will host their annual “Birthday Banquet”, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, Henderson.  Theme: “Rebirth!!”, This is a formal/semi formal occasion.  Tickets are $15.00 each.  Must be purchased before August 15, 2010.  Buffet dining, performance by the West Holly Spring Church of the Living God, Angels and the speaker for the occasion will be Evangelist Doris Johnson of Lufkin, Tx.  Please contact: Cassandra Baxter @ 903-571-5205.   Plan to participate in this great event or sponsor a youth to attend.

One Heart Women's Stampede of Faith - August 28, 2010

Bar None Cowboy Church will host the One Women's Stampede of Faith program, "These Boots Are Made For Walking" on Saturday, August 28th at the church.  The special guest speaker will be Eddie Baiseri with Special Guest Singer, Susie McEntire.  Admission is free and all are invited. Free Pressure Canner Testing - May - August

Dial gauges on pressure canners need to be checked for accuracy each year, and can be tested by bringing only the lid of the canner for testing to the Rusk County Extension Office, 113 East Fordall Street, Henderson, phone 903-657-0376.

AFS-USA Looking For Host Families for Exchange Students:  AFS is a worldwide, nonprofit organization that has been leading international high school student exchange for more than 60 years. Each year, AFS-USA welcomes 2,500 international high school students who come to study in US high schools and live with host families.  We are looking for families in East Texas to become host families to students arriving in mid-August. Rusk County Farmers' Market - Open each Saturday from 7 a.m. until sold out and each Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. The Farmers' Market is located at Fair Park, next to the Henderson Activity Center parking lot, at the intersection of Fair Park and South High Streets in Henderson.
 
"Hearts for Brynn" signs still available - Little Brynn Lewis of Henderson should be coming home for the first time in early August after receiving her new heart in May and family friends and supporters would like to have signs all over town showing that the community of Henderson supports her family and her. The signs are small -- the size of political yard signs seen during election season. They are pink, black, and white and say "Hearts for Brynn: We are Praying for Brynn Lewis". The cost is $20 and all proceeds go towards Brynn's medical expenses.

ST CLAIRE'S STITCHERS - St. Claire's Stitchers, a newly formed needlework guild, will meet from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. the fourth Friday of each month at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church at 214 College Ave. in Henderson. Do you quilt, needlepoint, knit or crochet? You're invited, as well as anyone who would like to learn any of those stitching skills. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call (903) 863-5328. 
 
Preserve Rusk County History - Join the Heritage Association: Please join the endeavor to save and preserve the Howard-Dickinson House by joining the Rusk County Heritage Associate today. Free GED Classes- The Kilgore College Adult Education System of Henderson offers free GED classes Monday-Friday from 9am-12pm. Classes take place at the Boys and Girls Club of Rusk County located at 710 Robertson Blvd in Henderson. They can be reached by phone at 903-655-2112.
 
FREE PARENTING CLASS- The Boys and Girls Club offers  a free Parenting Class each Wednesday from 6pm-8pm at 710 Robertson Blvd in Henderson. They can be contacted via the phone at 903-655-2112. "The children are the broken pieces in a broken relationship.
 
FREE COMPUTER CLASSES - The Boys and Girls Club of Rusk County will be offering free computer classes to those interested. They will be held Monday through Wednesday from 6 - 7 p.m every week. Learn how to use the computer in a self - paced learning environment and meet recognized certification requirements.
